Being A Man Festival

Being A Man addresses the challenges and pressures of masculine identity in the 21st century.

This major new festival – now in its second year – is taking over Southbank Centre for three days in November 2015. Join us for conversations and the sharing of stories – serious, challenging and light-hearted – plus the mandate to discuss anything and everything about being a man today.

BAM Friday focuses on men in society. We’re inviting key professionals, policy makers and experts to discuss how being a man influences social life. Guests from think tanks and charities, industry, government and community initiatives are discussing topics ranging from suicide rates and parental leave to young offenders and new leadership models.

You can take part in our speed mentoring session, and we are hosting a parallel Being A Man education day on site for boys and young men from our partner schools.

BAM Saturday and Sunday continue with talks, debates, music, workshops, performances and discussion. We’re looking at the changing nature of masculinity and the different ways in which men are shaping what the future might look like – for all of us.

We present extraordinary contributors and leaders in their fields exploring all facets of masculinity and male identity. Topics include fatherhood, friendship, sport, spirituality, sex and sexuality, education, gender equality, men behind bars, lad culture, violence, the work/life balance, race, class and politics.

You can expect frankness, insight and inspiration, as we look to develop the tools to make change.
